This summer, the Province will carry out work to help improve traffic flow and safety a key connection to the Hammonds Plains Road.

Building on upgrades that took place at the end of 2025, the new project will enhance turning movements and modernize traffic control at the Highway 102 Exit 3 interchange in Bedford.

Construction at the southbound Exit 3 off-ramp will include:

  • The creation of dual left-turn lanes onto Hammonds Plains Road, helping to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow
  • Widening and repairing sections of Hammonds Plains Road and the ramp and shoulder repairs
  • Drainage improvements, new catch basin and connecting pipe installation
  • New pavement markings

At the same time, improvements will be made to the northbound Exit 3 on-ramp, where a new set of traffic signals will be installed. These signals will support a dedicated, signalized left-turn movement onto the northbound ramp, improving safety and traffic operations at the intersection. This work will be completed by Public Works crews and is also expected to take place this summer.

Work is anticipated to start in mid/late July and take place over the summer months, with completion expected in early fall.

Improvements and enhancements to Highway 102 are recommended in Action 1.2.2 in the Regional Transportation Plan. Work like this helps to prepare the corridor for future large-scale improvements while providing relief today.
