Continued community transportation support
Project Stage
About the Project
Community transportation is an inclusive transportation service provided by a community organization or municipality in a low-density area of Nova Scotia, often in areas where fixed-route transit is too costly, inefficient, and ineffective to operate. This is an essential service for residents in rural areas that need to access healthcare, employment and training, daily needs, government services, and to enjoy their communities. Together with the rapid transit network and inter-municipal transit, continued growth and support of community transit form an integrated transit network.

FROM THE REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION PLAN
Action 1.3.3: Support the continued growth and success of Community Transportation Services.
Community Transportation operators provide a vital transportation service in areas where fixed-route transit is too costly, inefficient, and ineffective to operate. Development of a sustainable funding model in collaboration with Community Transportation operators will support service growth and affordable fares for users. Building a partnership between government and operators can help improve Nova Scotians access to healthcare and reduce the burden on medical transport, improve access to employment and services, and better connect residents to fixed-route transit services for longer distance trips.
