Network vulnerability assessments
Project Stage
About the Project
As the climate warms, the risks of catastrophic events such as floods, storms, and wildfires increase. This can have a significant impact on the function of the transportation system by damaging infrastructure and disrupting supply chains. Working to understand vulnerabilities in the system and mitigating these will prepare the province for an uncertain future .
Benefits
- Improves reliability
- Enhanced climate resiliency
FROM THE REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION PLAN
Action 3.1.1: Conduct targeted vulnerability assessments for existing transportation infrastructure on critical corridors.
Extreme events are expected to occur with greater frequency and severity in the future. As new data such as provincial flood mapping becomes available, targeted assessments on the most critical corridors will help identify proactive measures to enhance climate resiliency.
