Transportation demand management
Project Stage
About the Project
Policies and programs are some of the tools in the toolbox when it comes to shaping the regional transportation system. Whether it's regulating new technology or more closely aligning land use and transportation planning, many options exist to help manage the use of the network.
FROM THE REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION PLAN
Action 3.2.2: Evaluate and implement policies and programs to manage transportation demand.
Policies and programs such as regulations, pricing signal initiatives, and education, along with infrastructure, service, and land use changes are all part of a holistic transportation system. These broader policy and program approaches can play a key role in shaping travel demand to help reduce strain on the transportation system. For example, the development and application of regulations to manage connected autonomous vehicles will be critical to ensure this new technology does not greatly increase trip length or double the number of trips on the road network.
