Hammonds Plains to Highway 101 Connector Project Begins
The province is getting started on a new connector road that will create much-needed redundancies and support housing. The new five-kilometre link will connect Hammonds Plains Road near Sandy Lake with Highway 101 at Exit 2.
DPW has issued a request for proposals for a consultant to assess potential environmental impacts in the project area. It will identify measures to avoid, reduce or mitigate effects on wetlands, wildlife, watercourses and nearby communities. Firms have until April 10 to submit their response.
With significant housing developments anticipated in the area, and with limited opportunities to enhance constrained corridors, new connections can provide multi-modal options for these new communities.
Link Nova Scotia is supporting the Department of Public Works by providing travel demand modelling, which gives us information on the regional impacts of both future transportation and housing in the area.
This project is recommended in the Regional Transportation Plan under action 1.2.3.
